We’re out here again today altering the landscape, bringing plants to life, but also putting them to death. In the morning, John transplants kohlrabi while Cassie and I plant herbs, tomatillos, and summer squash, as well as replant the cucumbers into larger pots (giving us a little more time to make way for them – we’ll open up some beds after the CSA radish harvest next week). In the afternoon, we stretch an expansive black tarp over the embankment between the back of the greenhouses and the compost trench, severing the life force of photosynthesis for thousands of spring hopefuls. We’re smothering this space to prepare for a pollinator planting later this fall. This new piece of landscaping is Balio approved.
