Before the growing season hits us with her high maintenance force, we farmers do our best to stabilize infrastructure and organize the chaos. Today that entails finishing the construction of an enclosure for our transplants and establishing order in the back of the barn. This is easily a week’s worth of work for Rufus and I, but with John and Cassie, we complete the greenhouse walls and clear more surface area in the back of the barn than I’ve ever personally seen. This means we may actually know where 75% of our tools are. I cross my Capricorn fingers that we can hold on to this level of organization through the season. Not to point fingers, but the Hauckes have a particular knack for leaving shit everywhere. Their specialty is placing junk in high-traffic doorways or just any pathway, as long as it’s right in the way. Lights me up every time.
