Teaching at KVR

10/18/2019
Dear Farm Journal,
For the last three days, I’ve been teaching at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, then jumping back into farm work at Keewaydin. Rufus has been doing the same at the Driftless Cafe. I’m intrigued by the process we go through to switch gears to our off farm jobs and back again. There is a fair amount of scrubbing, manicuring of hands, and changing wardrobe while getting presentable for the public. We watch each other get ready at different times of day, complimenting one another on how nicely we clean up. I find myself missing him more as we settle into this routine, always excited for him or I to arrive back home. Transitioning back to farm life usually requires a bit of a debriefing period while we ease back into the rhythm of home. We reconnect with a handful of amusing stories to share and a rekindled appreciation of our time together.
