Dear Farm Journal,
There’s a bite to the breeze, but no cold crystals adorning the landscape when we step outside to uncover the plants. Jack Frost has spared us one more marginal midnight. Rufus turns to me and says, “Do you know they’re calling this a polar vortex? The average last frost date for this area is May 16th. I think they used to just call this weather”. I giggle. My dad had called to warn us about the frost and also asked if we were picking asparagus yet. I told him no, but as we were walking down to the field Rufus said, “Oh my god, I can see it already! We need to pick today!” The frost warning may have been early, but the asparagus call was right on time.
