Making moves toward sustainability just feels so sweet, and today we took a big stride forward. Rufus and I have been discussing transitioning the farm to solar power for a year or so now, and today we had our site assessment with Eagle Point Solar out of Dubuque. We’re looking at combining the farm and house into one system and installing ground mount panels in two potential locations. The assessor only had to fight his way through a few spider colonies and birds nests to evaluate our electrical system, but I think he got what he needed. He did a drone flight to take photos, measure the shade of the silo, and gather all the factors for his calculations. With the information we get today, I will be able to move forward with the USDA Rural Energy for America grant application to help pay for the project. We’re pretty pumped to be moving this forward. Bring on the sun, baby!
