Dear Farm Journal,

The harvests are coming in hot and heavy this week; tomatoes, cucumbers, picklers, peppers, and sweetcorn. It amazes me how much fruit these plants can push with so little rain. They are the substance of efficiency, not letting one drop of moisture go to waste, making magic from the dust. In the late afternoon heat, I burrow my face into a sweet yellow doll watermelon, letting the juices dribble down my chin and chest. It’s too delectable to eat any other way, maximum indulgence. I absorb the fulfillment of summer fruition with a soaking wet smile.
