Dear Farm Journal,
When our farm team comes back together on Mondays, I experience and observe a sweeping collective fortitude. Our synergy raises our stamina and our group conversations create snapshots of distraction from the heat. Droplets of sweat drip from our brow bones and run into salted eyeballs, but we repeatedly wipe them clear and continue. We plunge into both ends of the raspberry hedge, which is about to be swallowed up by giant ragweed, burdock, and nettles. By the time we all meet in the middle, the edges of the hedge have been revealed along with a few handfuls of ripe red raspberries, a sweet reward for our hard work on a hot day.
