Rufus and I have slowly been recovering baby chickens out of the weeds. We put out some food and water and keep periodically checking around the coop. We take careful and calculated steps, making sure not to step on anyone hiding underfoot. We listen for their little cheeps in hopes of locating them. These guys are way too young and vulnerable to be free range yet. We’re also hosting a group of campers this weekend, some of our first Driftless Curiosity participants, and one brave baby chick (who they named Survivor Chicken #1) wandered all the way over to their camp to be rescued. Eventually, Survivor Chicken #2 came along. It was quite the experience for everyone. I think we’re up to about 30 chickens now.
