Before we could start work on the greenhouse buildout, I needed to hike down to the sugar bush to retrieve Rufus’s drill. It’s not uncommon this time of year to start a project and realize one of the tools we require is down in the woods for the sugaring extravaganza. No biggie. It was a pleasant morning for a walk. I shot the breeze with Papa Rich for a few minutes while he stoked the boiler, then made my way back to Greenhouse 3. Rufus and I continued framing in our dividing wall and tacked up plastic, bringing us one step closer to our mini greenhouse inside a greenhouse for the transplants. In the afternoon, I worked on the lesson plan for our third Driftless Curiosity workshop on finishing and canning syrup, making confections, and end of season wrap up. I’ve learned a ton about sugaring this year and am excited to share with participants this Saturday.
