I looked at my bones on a screen today. In a sterile doctor’s office, I inspected an image of my spine. What a peculiar feeling. I rarely write about struggles of the body, for people rapidly grow weary of hearing people’s pain, and back pain, in particular, is so common to the human experience, it’s less than noteworthy in passing conversation. Those who suffer, learn to tolerate it quietly beneath a thinly veiled grimace. But, eventually you reach an age or a breaking point when you can’t put off the pain any longer. It must be addressed if you are to continue. So, here I am, looking for answers. They’re not on this screen. The next place to look is an MRI on Tuesday, another strange vision of my insides on a computer.
