Yesterday Rufus and I had a Zoom meeting with a farm manager from Savanna Institute, a nonprofit that works with farmers to help them integrate agroforestry practices. We talked about some of the NRCS funding available to repair our windbreaks, manage our wooded acreage, and even apply for another greenhouse. We discussed improving our hazelnut operation and the development of a cooperative market. In the next couple months, they’ll visit the farm and work with us to create a comprehensive plan for implementing agroforestry that best fosters ecological resilience on our land. Our goal is to put in perennials every year and establish a food forest. In the future, we’d like to be a demonstration farm, a living example of alternative agricultural designs.
