Dear Farm Journal,
For a year or so, Rufus and I have been tossing around the idea of bringing a few jersey cows to Keewaydin. I’m really the one who keeps nudging the idea along, while Rufus is more hesitant. In this venture, he’s seasoned, and I’m naive. Also, Rufus has aligned himself more with plants than animals in his farming career. He says, “Vegetables don’t run through fences or shit all over you”. I, on the other hand, really enjoy the animal presence on the farm. I understand I have a lot to learn and I’m lining up commitment and hard work for myself, but that all evokes curiosity and energizes me further. Is there a tickling sense somewhere in the back of my subconscious that says, “At some point, you will laugh at the woman who wrote this post”? Yes, I’m aware of that, but Papa Rich and I are starting the Keewaydin Jersey Herd to begin with 3 cows named, June Bug, Flash, and Barb.
