Dear Farm Journal,
Cultivating work-life balance and self-care habits tends to be more tricky than growing tomatoes on the farm. Yet, the fruits of self love and inner harmony make us far better farmers. Every morning, I contest with my compulsion to get straight to work. The farm forever beckons and never turns our working will away. The farmer must learn to resist the temptress, and properly prepare to meet her summons. I wake up at 5:30, I write, I practice yoga, I meditate, I drink a strong cup of coffee. I align and energize my mind, body, and spirit for the day. It deeply pains my ego and Capricorn sensibilities when Rufus gets out the door before me, and I tell him this. He responds impeccably, putting my angst at ease and reassuring me of the value he holds in these small hours. Sometimes that’s all it takes to keep investing in yourself.
