Dear Farm Journal,
While I get in some office time, Rufus dives into our jungle-like greenhouses to bring some order to the chaos. We haven’t pruned our tomato plants in almost three weeks and they are creeping onto the wild side. The suckers are shooting out into the pathways, their shadows are darkening the pepper patch, one line has collapsed completely, and another has pulled the lumber from the frame of the front wall. So, he has his work cut out for him. After I wrap up in the office, I join him in G4 to help restore the broken line, untangling vines and twine, and heaving the 12 ft tomato plants back upright. The pruning never ends. Maybe we didn’t need two and a half greenhouses full of tomatoes. I seem to forget this in the springtime.
