I’ve committed the day to writing for Driftless Area Magazine and it feels luxurious. Once I settle my nerves and shake off a looming threat of writer’s block, I get into the flow of a narrative. I work vocabulary, phrases, and sentences over and over again, never truly allowing myself a first draft. I’ve always been this way, but it can be a harsh and critical grind through to the conclusion. Writing is like this for me, the pleasure of expression and the pain of critique.
