The building of the Driftless Curiosity hammock forest is underway. We selected a peaceful portion of one of the pine stands on the farm and Rufus began trimming branches for the pathways and hammock spots while I cleared the brush behind him. It really does feel magical when I dip into this shady, insulated space. A soft bed of pine needles covers the forest floor, subduing the understory and making for pleasant walking. The birds sing overhead and thin beams of sunlight speckle the terrain. The hammock spots will be far enough apart so that people won’t be able to see each other, creating a space for solitary rest and reflection. We cut out 3 spots today and have 7 more to build before next Saturday’s workshop on nature journaling. We still have space available if you’d like to reserve your space in the hammock forest.
