Our new running joke on the farm is that we’re all part of an elaborate production called, “Sun Stroke The Musical”. Rufus and John came up with the theatrical mock-up in a state of pseudo-delirium during this stretch of hot, dry weather. The premise of the act is a group of farmers standing out in the field who start “sun stroking out”, hallucinating about winter and singing a show tune called “88 Days ‘Til Christmas” in strange costume combinations including ski goggles and sun hats. This lighthearted dark humor keeps us going through a grueling day in the greenhouse of trellising the tomato jungle. At the end of the day, the greenhouse looks amazing and a merciful rain brings us back from the brink of sun stroke… the musical.
