Nothing awakens my curiosity quite like a carefree walk in the woods. John, Cassie, and I wandered away from the farmstead, hiking from mushroom trees to climbing trees and back again. Although we didn’t find any morels, we rediscovered that childlike wonder we remember; the attraction to everything novel, the spontaneous interest which sparked our synapses three decades ago, when we first learned the fundamentals of the natural world. I wonder what filter, what film, these thirty years have cast over our vision, and if we can ever truly see the world as children again. Climbing trees definitely helps.
