For Traci’s last full day in the Driftless, we decided to put off the potatoes and make our way to the Kickapoo River. The water was cool and clear with bluish green tints which drew my eyes to the ecosystems below. The autumn complexion of the trees along the riverbanks smiled on us in full radiance. Rufus caught a 16” brown trout, his tasty river trophy, and Traci tried to take it all in. Again, I watch new eyes drink in this waterway. I regard her rapture and attend to her magnetism. She nourishes the soul starving for spiritual sustenance and washes over our tangled thoughts with her tender trickling song, a chorus of clarity.
