Between harvesting and canning tomatoes, I had one of my most exciting phone calls in awhile. I’ve been reaching out to the Intertribal Agricultural Council in hopes that we can collaborate in the future, and today we moved that vision forward. As a woman with Indigenous heritage, I feel strongly about recognizing the Native history on this land and endeavoring to heal our cultural wounds. I want to be proactive about making space for Native food ways and learning from Indigenous growers. I had a great conversation with IAC about connecting with Ho Chunk growers to plant Native seed plots at Keewaydin, grow food for IAC events, and possibly working with a Ho Chunk chef from the area. I can’t express how honored I feel to make this connection and I can’t wait to see what the 2021 season brings.
