My eyes drifted from my blinking cursor to the radiant sky. A rare sunny day among cloudy weeks beckoned beyond my window. I tossed my laptop to the side, giving in to the pressing suggestion to go outside swelling from the back of my mind. I hiked the Wintergreen Bluff trail from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve visitor center, a path I walked with the forest kindergarteners last year. I remember their sweet little laughs and the funny things they would say. I’m warmed by the memory of their pure joy in the forest. I miss our Friday hikes together and I hope they’re out there getting sunshine on their little faces today.
