Certified Organic Skullcap – Evening’s Blue Serenity

Experience the tranquil beauty of skullcap, those distinctive blue helmet-shaped flowers that dot native prairies and woodland margins as summer evenings approach. Sustainably cultivated at Keewaydin Farms in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, our skullcap captures the essence of prairie herbalism in every carefully tended leaf and blossom.

Blue Skullcap
American skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), historically called “blue skullcap,” is a member of the mint family. The distinctive flowers, shaped like tiny medieval helmets, bloom in one-sided racemes along square stems typical of the mint family. These delicate blue blossoms appear in late summer, creating subtle waves of color in the garden.

Mindful Cultivation and Harvest
Our skullcap thrives in the rich soils of our organic herb fields, where it develops the robust leaf structure and concentrated compounds traditional herbalists have long appreciated. Harvested during peak flowering when the plant’s energy is concentrated in both leaves and blossoms, each aerial portion is carefully dried to preserve its characteristic mild, slightly bitter taste and the plant’s reputation as a gentle evening companion.

Prairie Wisdom Preserved
Native American herbalists introduced European settlers to skullcap’s calming qualities, and it quickly became a staple in American folk medicine. Traditional herbalists valued the aerial parts for bedtime blends. The plant’s natural compounds, including flavonoids and other constituents, contribute to its long-standing reputation as a peaceful botanical ally.
